# PTE practice scores vs official scores

Official PTE Academic scores come from Pearson. They combine many tasks, including integrated skills that feed more than one communicative score.

PeakPTE reports **practice estimates**. That is a product choice, not a hedge. Students already get burned by portals that show 70 to 80 in practice, then a much lower result on test day. We would rather show a partial, honest number than a confident fake.

## What is a practice estimate?

A practice estimate is a score we compute from your answers on PeakPTE items. It uses our scoring-model version for that question type. It is useful for spotting weak types and tracking practice. It is not an official PTE Academic score.

## Why we will not invent an overall PTE score

The official overall score is not a simple average you can invent from a few practice items. Showing a polished 10 to 90 number from incomplete evidence is how practice apps lose trust. PeakPTE keeps estimates labeled as practice. Starting Point follows the same rule: a short placement can recommend a first type, but it does not claim a full Pearson result.

## How should you read PeakPTE numbers?

Use them to decide what to practice next. Compare your own sessions over time. Do not treat a practice estimate as a visa or university result. For official scores, book PTE Academic with [Pearson](https://www.pearsonpte.com/pte-academic).

## What does a useful session look like?

1. Open Practice and choose one question type.
2. Answer a handful of items without rushing to reveal keys first.
3. Submit, then use Answer if you want to see the key.
4. Note which blanks or options you missed.
5. Redo once, then switch types if the same mistake repeats.

If you are new, take Starting Point first so the home CTA has a type to recommend.

## What stays true later

When we add more practice surfaces, we will still label practice estimates. AI evaluation, when it exists, will never be the only score truth. Deterministic scoring stays primary. Pearson remains the only source of official results.
